PAC 12, NCAA 2019. TEAM PERFORMANCE ANALYSIS
An important aspect of my task as a methodologist and analyst for soccer teams, at the academy, university, and professional levels consists of studying the performance in competition. The integration of numerical values obtained by the team and/or private data providers (in this case InStat) and the video of the match (or training) generates a very powerful opportunity when making decisions for training and competition design.
I present here my analysis of the University of California at Berkeley men's soccer team. This video is pertinent to the 2019 PAC 12 competition organized by the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) in the United States.
Permanent analysis of team performance is a fundamental aspect of modern sport's work. It should be carried out by professionals that are knowledgable in sports sciences and data analysis following the requirements of the coaching staff. The information produced must always provide the team of coaches with specific and new information that allows them a competitive advantage when designing the training and competition processes.
At the University level, this type of practice can increase the educative value provided to the student-athlete. It is important to consider that sports are a fundamental component in University education and that most students will not participate at a competitive level beyond the 4 years period. Therefore, analytics in this environment besides the support to the coach will enhance the sports-related knowledge that the player will have as part of his/her overall background for life.
