Considering that a professional player runs at least 60 kilometers a week for many years, performs many thousands of kicks, and many other similar techniques (jumping, landing, lifting, etc.) the inadequate technical load on the external aspect of the foot might be the main cause of his current injury on the right foot.

Those technical and training deficiencies that most probably generated Martinez’s injury are likely caused by a limited training strategy during his career starting at the academy level.
